How to password protect a PDF

Create a PDF that requires a password to open. Choose a password you can keep safely and share it separately from the document when another person needs access.

  1. Choose a PDF and enter its current password if it already has one.
  2. Set a new password of at least four characters.
  3. Select Protect PDF, download the file, and confirm you can reopen it.
